Student Stipend Initiative

ASBURY STUDENT STIPEND INITIATIVE

Here at Asbury United Methodist Church, located at 4257 Kearneysville Pike in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, we understand and value the journey each student travels toward a college degree. We would like to help students through that journey by establishing a Student Stipend Initiative (SSI) to help support and encourage them in their pursuit of a college degree.

Coming in the Fall 2021 college semester, Asbury United Methodist Church will offer an opportunity to college students by awarding a stipend.  The stipend is designed to support and encourage students to remain connected to Asbury’s mission, while achieving their educational goals.

To either become or remain connected to Asbury and to be a recipient of the Student Stipend Initiative, please follow the requirements listed below:

  • Must be a college student connected to Asbury United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, WV.
  • Must have achieved a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) the previous semester, by presenting a copy of an official transcript.
  • Send an e-mail with the Subject: “SSI Request” to the attention of SSI Team ( ). The email must include student’s name, address, name of college, college city and state, desired major, anticipated month and year of graduation, and at least three life or career goals.
  • The deadline for the email is to be within one month of each student’s fall or spring semester.

Upon satisfactorily achieving the above requirements, the SSI Team will review and evaluate the submissions/e-mails. Pastor Adam or designee will send a response with further instructions. Each student, meeting the requirements of an SSI recipient, is expected to keep in touch with Asbury by providing a written summary at the mid-term and end of the semester intervals, letting the SSI Team know how things are going personally and educationally. Asbury encourages students enrolled and benefitting from SSI to take initiative toward serving the church, if attending a local college, or whenever home from school and on semester breaks.

Asbury is excited for each student enrolled in the SSI and will refer to recipients as “Asbury Students”.

Please note that the SSI will be based upon the amount of funds available. Once students have met the requirements as “Asbury Students”, stipends will be distributed by PayPal or check at the beginning of each qualifying semester.
